Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 contains several tax reform provisions that may reduce your federal income tax liability. In order to help you make a decision regarding your possible eligibility for certain federal tax credits you will be receiving a 1098-T form. ACS Education Services will be handling 1098-T reporting needs for Nazareth College. For general questions about your 1098-T form please contact ACS at 1-877-467-3821. You can also view and print your 1098-T from the ACS website: www.1098-T.com

By the first week in February, you will receive your Federal Tax Form 1098-T which documents your enrollment at Nazareth College to the Internal Revenue Service and your (or your parents') possible eligibility for various federal income tax credits, namely the Hope Scholarship Credit and Lifetime Learning Credit.

You may pick up a copy of our brochure describing the eligibility requirements for these tax credits and some of the other provisions of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 in Financial Services.

An online version of this brochure, 2007 Tax Benefits for Higher Education, is available by following the link. The brochure is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you can't open the brochure, get the latest free Acrobat reader.

Nazareth College cannot determine your eligibility for these tax credits nor the amount you may claim. You should consult your tax preparer or the IRS for advice and detailed information regarding the provisions of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education, explains tax benefits for higher education and may be beneficial in preparing your 2006 tax returns.
