Graduate Program Pre-Requisites

1. All applicants to the Speech-Language Pathology program must have transcript credit (which could include course work, advanced placement credit, CLEP, or examination equivalency) for each of the following areas:

  • biological science
  • physical science
  • mathematics/statistics
  • social-behavioral science

2. All applicants must have transcript credit that demonstrates undergraduate preparation in the following (or equivalent):

  • Basic Communication Processes (15 credit hours)
    CSD 132 Introduction to Speech, Language and Hearing
    CSD 201 Phonetics
    CSD 231 Anatomy of the Speech Mechanism
    CSD 232 Speech Science
    CSD 252 Psycholinguistics

  • Methodology & Practice in Communication Sciences and Disorders (15 credit hours)
    CSD 335 Methods of Speech-Language Evaluation
    CSD 360 or 361 Methods of Speech-Language Therapy + CSD 362L Clinic Lab
    CSD 437 Hearing Problems and Testing
    CSD 438 Aural Rehabilitation
    CSD 452 Behavior Management

  • Applicants who do not have transcript credit, or the equivalent, reflecting the above pre-professional preparation will be required to complete prerequisite courses in an extended program, and each of those courses must be completed with a grade of "B" or better.

3. Applicants who do not currently hold initial New York State initial certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities and who desire teaching certification must also complete the following in addition to the pre-requisite courses in communication sciences and disorders listed above:
