Walk4Hearing
Sunday 5/7 @ 9AM - we're starting a new tradition for Naz CSDA!
So far we have 17 people signed up for the team! Our Team Leader is Dr. Quenin (cquenin0@naz.edu), you can sign up by contacting Jody Barrett at (jbarret9@naz.edu). Rochester chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America sponsors a 5K "Walk4Hearing" at 9 a.m. Sunday May 5. Walkers will stroll along the Erie Canal Heritage Trail in Perinton Park, Rt. 31F, in Fairport. Participants can walk or sponsor a walker. $100 earns each sponsor or walker a t-shirt. Local proceeds go toward scholarships for high school seniors with hearing loss. (http://www.shhh-rochester-ny.org/)

FOLLOW-UP: A group of 12 CSD students participated in the Walk4Hearing at Perinton Park. We were asked to field a team for this event at a meeting earlier this semester with Joan Ewing and Jeannette Kanter. Joan brought a couple of her friends with cochlear implants to our clinic to learn more about our program here. The walk was a benefit for the Hearing Loss Association of America, and will fund scholarships for deaf and hard of hearing college students. The Naz students raised approx $600. We were surprised when we arrived to see Daan Braveman (President of Nazareth College), who was one of the "celebrity walkers". When he spoke to the assembly of more than 200 walkers, he acknowledged the Nazareth student team and mentioned the great work of the clinic. All in all, a very good day for Nazareth College and the CSD program. Our team was very visible at this event that brought together several components of the deaf and education communities. Nice day for a walk, too!
