Criteria and Procedures for Admission into the Social Work Major

An applicant to the college may declare intent to major in social work. After completing a semester of course work, the student can complete a major/advisor form officially requesting to major in social work. Students may be conditionally accepted into the major, but are not fully accepted into the major until they have completed SWK 222 (Introduction to Social Work), SWK 304W (Human Behavior and the Social Environment I), and SWK 383 (Social Work Practice I and Field Experience I). Thus, students cannot be fully and unconditionally admitted into the social work major prior to junior status and completion of the fall semester.

It should be noted that social work faculty frequently meet with prospective applicants. Such meetings include providing information concerning Nazareth College's Social Work program and a career in social work, doing unofficial transcript evaluations for transfer students to determine what and how many courses would be required for a social work degree, and during course selection, advising students who are interested in pursuing a social work degree but who have not yet been accepted into the major.
