Nazareth College Center for Service Learning
Service-Learning activities integrate academics into a community service context. Students and their communities benefit from the combination of civic effort with structured learning opportunities and thoughtful, provocative reflection. The following are some reflection responses that students have had.
-
Communication
"Our relationship has continued to grow friendlier. There also seems to be a deepening element of trust."
-
Diversity
"The Service-Learning project allowed me to experience working with others and the diversity that exists in working styles and personalities. I have come to value that diversity, although it was, at times, challenging."
-
Reality
"I think that everyone has different values and beliefs, whether they are culturally or morally instilled, and I think that the opportunity to see that first hand was an important part of the Service-Learning project in making the connection between classroom and real life."
-
Skills
"Another lesson that has emerged into my best practice is to learn to relax and go where the day will take me. I can make all the plans in the world but life is unpredictable. I need to be able to adapt to changes and work with what I have."
-
Values
"Being aware of my own self will make me an informed, genuine, professional social worker. I feel this is one of the biggest challenges."
