Course Requirements

Admission Into the Major

We encourage interested students to formally declare a major in psychology during the sophomore year. Conditional acceptance will be granted upon completion of the Major/Advisor form available in the Office of Academic Advisement; final acceptance into the major requires a minimum grade of C in Psy 201, and 202.

Requirements  (For students admitted to the College August 2007 or later)

 

Core Courses (13 credits)

PSY 101: Introduction to Psychology: Physiological, Cognitive, and Sensory Processes

PSY 102: Introduction to Psychology: Personality, Development, and Social Behavior

PSY 201: Statistics and Research Methods I

PSY 202: Statistics and Research Methods II

 

Distribution Requirement (12 credits)

  • Choose one course from the developmental sequence:
    • PSY 221: Child Development
    • PSY 224: Development in Adolescence and Young Adulthood
    • Psy 321: Middle Age and Aging

                            OR CHOOSE

              Psy 222: Social Psychology

  • Choose one of the following:
    • PSY 315: Physiological Psychology
    • PSY 314: Sensation and Perception
  • Choose one of the following:
    • PSY 311: Learning
    • PSY 312: Memory and Cognition
  • Choose one of the following:
    • PSY 323: Abnormal Psychology
    • PSY 314: Psychology of Personalit

     

ELectives  (6 credits)

Students may choose two courses from the distributon requirement that they had not taken and/or any other psychology courses.

 

Capstone Courses (3 credits) Choose one of the following:

PSY 442: History of Psychology

PSY 444: Senior Seminar
