The Physical Therapy program at Nazareth College incorporates the vision and mission of the American Physical Therapy Assocation (APTA) throughout the curriculum. Please note the following vision statement put forth by APTA (June 2000): By 2020, physical therapy will be provided by physical therapists who are doctors of physical therapy, recognized by consumers and other health care professionals as practitioners of choice to whom consumers have direct access for the diagnosis of, interventions for, and prevention of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to movement, function, and health. BS/DPT Program Requirements and Curriculum

Foundation of Liberal Arts and Sciences/
Liberal Arts and Sciences Core Requirements

The preprofessional foundation in liberal arts and sciences promotes strong interpersonal and communication skills, problem solving, and early critical thinking. The BSHSC program has a depth in biological, and social science with several courses in psychology. Physical therapists work with people and the psychology minor will help them understand human behavior.

  • Freshman Seminar - 3 credit hours
  • English Composition I and II - 6 credit hours
  • Perspectives I courses - 8 courses from those designated (or required for PT majors), one in each of the following areas; minimum 25 credit hours.
  • Perspectives II courses - 3 courses must be completed in three different areas excluding the area in which the major lies.

    Perspectives I and II are denoted by PI or PII preceding the course title in the schedule of classes. Only courses so designated may be used to satisfy Perspectives I and II requirements.

    Area IV Mathematics

    • Mth 111 or Mth 113 are PI courses that also meets a major requirement of Physical Therapy students.

    Area V Philosophy
    Area VI Religious Studies
    Area VII Science with Laboratory

    • The Biology and Chemistry sequences required for the major satisfy this requirement.

    Area VIII Social Sciences

    • Physical Therapy students are required to take seven courses in Psychology, preparing them for a Psychology minor.
  • A global studies course, and three writing intensive courses (Perspectives I level, Perspectives II level, and a course from the major) must be included in the student's total program.
  • Computer literacy - an information technology requirement met by each academic department.
  • Physical Education (noncredit) - two semesters, including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
  • Students are expected to complete an ethics course (REL or PHIL).
