Nurse Educator

Program Overview

Nurses who already have a master's degree in nursing may enroll in the Advanced Certificate in Nurse Educator Program. This 20 credit hour program consists of didactic courses on how to teach nursing, and how to design and evaluate nursing curriculum. There are two practice courses which focus on expanding the student's teaching skills in his/her pre-selected specialized area of interest.

Program Goals

The goals of the Advanced Certificate program are to prepare nurses with a master's degree who:

• Provide teaching to nursing students and nursing staff from a culturally congruent perspective.
• Have the knowledge and skills to develop, implement, and evaluate nursing curriculum.

Outcome Objectives

• Demonstrate teaching skills across settings (classroom, clinical, and community).
• Design, implement, and evaluate the delivery of culturally congruent nursing curriculum.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills related to informational technologies that support the teaching-learning process.

Nurse Educator Advanced Certificate Admission Requirements

• A master's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• Current professional nursing licensure and registration.
• Completed application to the Nurse Educator program.
• Two letters of recommendation.
• Interview with the Director of the program.
  
  

Your application will be considered after you submit the following materials:

• The application form and required application fee.
• An autobiographical statement including your reasons for applying to the program.
• A copy of current professional nursing license and registration in New York State or other jurisdiction.
• Two letters of recommendation.
• Official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended.
  
  

After the college has received all of your application materials, you will be called for an appointment with the Director of the Nurse Educator program.
