2009 Piano Camp
* Enhance your Performance *Expand your Versatility *Broaden your Musicianship —these were the cornerstones of the first annual Nazareth College Piano Camp held in the Wilmot Hall of Music from held June 25-27, 2009. Working with Department of Music piano faculty, eight junior and senior high school students refined performance repertoire, learned new ensemble repertoire and participated in a whirlwind of musical activities including movement, improvisation/harmonization and theory classes. They studied the life and works of camp composer Robert Schumann and were introduced to the music of Fred Rzweski. Assisting the faculty were camp counselors Tasha George-Hinnant and David Pacific, both piano performance majors at Nazareth College. “Musical
Jeopardy” creation with categories "Things My Teacher Always Said to Me", "Wham or Whisper", "Key or Clef" and "Pop Music was a recreational hit.
The Saturday Camp Finale showcased campers as they presented the results of their two- and- a-half day experience to family, friends and piano faculty. Each student performed a piano solo and a piano duet learned at the camp. All improvised a blues chorus and participated in movement drills demonstrating odd meters and musical counterpoint. Post Finale chocolate-dipped strawberries afforded time to share camp experiences and discuss plans for a longer event next year. We thank all the teachers who prepared their students so wonderfully for this experience.
