Stephen Kennedy
is the founder and director of two of Rochester's most vibrant
music ensembles: SONUM, an ensemble devoted to creating "sound" for the modern age by fusing ancient and modern music within a web of improvisation, and the Schola Cantorum of Christ Church which performs a weekly Compline service, and specializes in Gregorian Chant and Renaissance polyphony. Mr. Kennedy received a Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance and a Masters Degree in Composition from Wichita State University, Wichita, KS. His organ study includes postgraduate work at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. At Wichita State, Mr. Kennedy taught courses in music theory, ear training and private composition. Listed in Who's who in American Colleges and Universities, He was a finalist in the 1986 Ottawa National Undergraduate Organ Competition and won the 1992, 1993 and 1994 Wichita State University Contemporary Music Competition. He has appeared as soloist on the Great Music Series (Provincetown, Ma.), with the Wichita Chamber Orchestra and has been a performer and lecturer for local and regional chapters of the American Guild of Organists. Mr. Kennedy is Director of Music at Bexley Hall Episcopal Seminary and Christ Church, Rochester. He is instructor of Church Music at the Eastman School of Music and instructor of piano at Nazareth College.
