Nazareth College Chamber Orchestra

The Nazareth College Chamber Orchestra (NCCO) meets once a week with a focus of performing chamber orchestra repertoire. This season the chamber orchestra will perform a variety of literature from Bach's Brandenburg No. 6 for 2 violas and orchestra to David Balikrishnan's jazz piece Skylife to Ernest Bloch's Concerto Grosso for Strings and Piano Obligato. The group provides the opportunity for Nazareth orchestral conducting students to lead the ensemble. The NCCO is under the direction of David Hult and Nancy Strelau.

Through the variety of small ensembles offered, trios and quartets are formed at the beginning of each semester. Literature is determined by each chamber music coach with input from ensemble members. Chamber groups perform each semester in string recitals, college ensemble performances and at various venues throughout the community. The Chamber Music Program is coordinated by David Hult.

Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra

The Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra (NCSO) under the direction of Nancy Pettersen Strelau performs a wide variety of traditional and contemporary orchestral literature throughout the year. The orchestra presents two concerts each semester, collaborating with the Nazareth Nazareth StringsCollege Choirs and featuring faculty and student soloists. NCSO is open to all Nazareth College students, regardless of major, and meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Auditions for seating placement occur at the beginning of each school year. The NSCO had the unique opportunity of performing with the Internationally Acclaimed National Choir of the Bahamas in Nassau, Bahamas during the 2005-2006 season.

The 2006-2007 seasons begins with an 'American Music Easy Listening' concert featuring works by Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Tyzik and Strelau. The Nazareth College Choirs join forces with the orchestra in December to present Vivaldi's Gloria and Mozart's Vespers Solennes De Confessore. Music by Russian composers is featured in March along with the Annual NCSO Concerto/Aria Competition Winners. The season concludes with the Annual Pops & Jazz Graduation Concert again featuring faculty and student soloists.
