Creative Arts Therapy: Music Therapy Specialization
The Master of Science Creative Arts Therapy Program is embedded in a psychotherapeutic orientation, preparing those educated in art or music to be effective and ethical professionals specializing in the fields of Art Therapy or Music Therapy. Utilizing highly collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches, the Nazareth College program is committed to developing people who are capable of applying intellectual strength, ethics, and aesthetic values in the treatment of individuals, groups, and families. Graduate Music Education
The Music Education Graduate Program, as approved by the National Association of Schools of Music, at Nazareth College offers teachers who are certified in music advanced instruction in curriculum, pedagogy, musicianship, research methods, and special topics in music and music
education. Attention is given throughout the program to current research, practices, and trends in the fields of music education in particular and education in general. Required musicianship study promotes the continued growth of musicianship. Applied study with a graduate recital is an option.
The program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours. Courses are offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer.
Entry Requirements: Graduate Music Education
1. Completion of a baccalaureate degree in music education at an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and a B average in the major field.
2. Two letters of recommendation.
3. Submission of official transcripts.
4. Copy of teacher certification in music.
5. An audition on the candidate's major instrument (*Please see audition requirements listed below).
6. Application and fee.

Audition Requirements: Graduate Music Education
The audition should be 10 to 15 minutes in length representing at least two different composers and styles. A variety of tempi is suggested. Vocalists should include music in three languages, including English. As part of the audition the Music Department Faculty will briefly interview each individual.
The audition must be completed prior to the graduate application deadline. Please download the audition request form and return it to Dr. Mary C. Carlson, Director of Music Education by the indicated deadline.
2008-2009 Audition Dates
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 (for October 1 application deadline) & Tuesday, March 31, 2009
(for April 1 application deadline). Auditions begin at 5:30 pm and are held in Wilmot Hall.
