
Degree Programs: Music Education
Music education majors complete eight semesters of course work including a professional course sequence. Additionally, students will:
- Observe and participate in practice-teaching experiences throughout the course sequence.
- Integrate strategic connections between liberal arts core curriculum with education course content, culminating in a Senior Experience Paper.
- Utilize substantial on-site collection of music teaching materials, including books, professional journals, basal series, Orff instruments, recordings and videos.
- Develop leadership skills by participation in student chapters of The National Association for Music Education and The American Choral Directors Association.
- Participate in annual Music Education Mini-Conference, offering workshops by area music educators on current topics relating to choir, band, general music and string teaching.
- Observe and teach in the Children Making Music Program for three to five year olds.
- Achieve high level of technical and musical artistry on primary instrument through weekly one-hour lessons and numerous performance opportunities.
