Dr. Mark Zeigler, Program Director, Department of Music

Dr. Zeigler has been a member of the faculty at Nazareth College since 1997. As Director of Choral Activities, he conducts the Nazareth College Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. His other responsibilities have included teaching graduate and undergraduate conducting courses, Choral Literature, Graduate Research Procedures, Orientation to Music Education, and supervising student teachers.

Dr. Zeigler possesses 30 years experience performing, teaching, composing and arranging in the pop music field. Dr. Zeigler is currently band manager and performing artist for the classic rock group, “The Chairs”.

Dr. Zeigler holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and a Master of Arts Degree in Choral Conducting from San Diego State University where he studied conducting with Frank Almond. He earned his Ph.D. in Choral Music Education at Florida State University where he studied conducting with Rodney Eichenberger and André Thomas. Dr. Zeigler was the recipient of the 1994 Graduate Student Teaching Fellowship Award while at Florida State University.  In 1999, Dr. Zeigler was appointed to the Taskforce on Health and Safety Issues in the Arts for his research on audiological disorders in musicians. More recently, Dr. Zeigler was appointed to the newly formed Committee on Descriptive Research for the College Music Society. He has served as the New York ACDA Repertoire and Standards Chair of Vocal Jazz since 2002. Dr. Zeigler is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Music Educators National Conference and American Choral Directors Association. He maintains an active schedule as clinician and adjudicator.

Dr. Roy Stein, Faculty, School of Management

As well as being a licensed attorney and college professor for the past 30 years, Stein has experienced a full and varied career in the music industry.  Active as a performing musician, Stein plays drums, keyboards, guitar, sings, and is an accomplished songwriter and record producer. In just the past three years, music from his bands has received outstanding reviews world wide in scores of music publications and Internet sites including such magazines as the Village Voice, EQ Magazine, and Paste Magazine.  His songwriting and musicianship have received a great deal of positive press in national publications and in major e-zines from around the world.  Stein continues to perform live and record on a regular basis.

Stein also has significant experience as a record producer and recording engineer having spent many hours as a performer, producer and engineer in some of the finest recording studios in NYC (Hit Factory) and in studios in upstate NY. Many music critics have commented favorably on his recording/production techniques, including: senior music critics from Rolling Stone, the Village Voice, and the senior Editor of EQ magazine.

Stein has close musical contacts with leading music attorneys, A&R, music press editors and critics, music promotions and marketing people, and radio program directors in upstate New York as well as cities such as L.A., NY, and London.

During the past year and a half, Stein has published four articles in EQ Magazine, one of the world’s largest and most highly respected recording industry publications. The associate editor at the magazine has elevated Stein to the top spot as a product reviewer, giving him first choice among the small elite cadre of writers as to which recording and music equipment he would like to sample, test, and/or review.
