Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate Research | Road Trips | Summer REU Participants
Students may choose to engage in an undergraduate research project as part of their mathematics major at Nazareth College. Participation in a research experience gives students the opportunity to further develop their ability to learn mathematics independently, to make connections between different branches of mathematics, and to work closely with mathematics faculty members. Research is a recommended part of every undergraduate mathematics curriculum according to the CUPM Guidelines.
It is increasingly valued as our students apply to NSF-funded
Summer Mathematics REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) Programs, graduate programs in mathematics and related fields, and positions in business and industry upon graduation. Students can earn 3 credits for MTH 490 Undergraduate Research in Mathematics, offered every spring semester. Students may use this as one of their mathematics electives courses. They may also have room and simply want to do research for additional math credits beyond the major requirements.
