Media Center Video Editing Lab
Purpose
The Media Center Video Editing Lab is a specialized lab designed to support video
editing and DVD creation for Nazareth College educational purposes. The lab and
related services can accommodate classes incorporating video creation assignments
and independent faculty, staff and student projects.
Hardware & Software
The lab is equipped with six Macintosh digital editing systems as well as a professional-quality
VHS analog editing system. Each computer workstation supports DV Mini, VHS and
S-VHS video formats and has the complete iLife software suite including iMovie,
iDVD, iTunes, iPhoto and GarageBand. Final Cut Pro software is
available to users experienced with the program. The Media Center provides limited
training in Final Cut Pro. Each workstation also has Microsoft Office 2004, which
includes Word and PowerPoint. Internet access is not available.
Access
Lab access is restricted to authorized users only. Faculty, staff and students
interested in using the lab are required to submit a proposal in advance. Student
proposals require an instructor’s approval. Class use of the lab must be
arranged one semester in advance allowing sufficient time for Media Center staff
to work with faculty or academic departments in planning technical requirements
and preparing services. The number of workstations and time-consuming nature of
video editing may limit how many proposals are approved for a given semester.
Therefore, prospective users are encouraged to submit proposals as early as possible.
Support
The lab is not staffed and there may be times when assistance is not immediately
available. In general, assistance for authorized lab users will be available 10am
to 9pm, Monday through Friday. It is highly recommended that users check on the
availability of assistance, if needed, prior to arriving at the lab. Training
and support may also be scheduled with media production staff. In addition, the
Media Center provides workshops and in-class demonstrations.
Related Equipment
The Media Center provides loans of camcorders, digital still cameras and related
equipment for completing approved video projects. Special arrangements for an
entire class to utilize production equipment must be made by the instructor, in
advance. Class use of production equipment without incorporating use of the lab
is also available. For more information, see the production services page.
All Media Center equipment loans are subject to availability.
