Media Collection

The Media Center maintains a collection of media materials containing items such as videotapes, audio cassettes, CDs, DVDs, computer software, et cetera. The primary purpose of the collection is to support teaching and learning at Nazareth College. New media materials normally will be considered for selection on the basis of recommendations from faculty, library staff, students, and other members of the Nazareth College community. Please check the following links for more detailed information regarding collection development policies and requesting new library materials.

Media Circulation

Materials in the media collection can be identified through the WebPAC (http://libra.nazlib.org/), accessible via the pull-down menu of "Quick Links" that appears at the top of each of the Library's web pages. The system is easy to use without instruction for basic searching by author, title, subject or keyword. To make extensive use of the online catalog, asking a Reference Librarian for instruction on advanced search techniques is recommended.

A college ID with library barcode is the unique identification required to use media materials. Barcodes may be obtained at the Circulation Desk on the main level of the library.

The media collection, with the exception of reserve materials, is shelved in open stacks. Due to the high use of many media materials in classroom instruction, circulation of the collection is limited. All materials must be checked out even if they are used only in the library.

Reserves

Reserve materials are also listed in WebPac, the library catalog, and can be searched by professor or course. Videos, CDs and other media materials on reserve for a specific course are shelved in closed stacks and may be obtained at the Media Center circulation desk. Media reserve materials may be borrowed for 4 hours (in library use only) and sometimes also for overnight or weekend loan. The instructor placing the item(s) on reserve designates the loan period.

Renewals
Media materials may be renewed a maximum of one time as long as no one has requested the item.

Renewals may be done in person or by phone (call 389-2139). A library barcode is required to verify identity for renewals. In compliance with state and federal privacy laws, information in library records cannot be discussed without proper ID. By phone, the only identification accepted is a library barcode.

Overdues
Late fees may accrue for materials not returned by the due date. If materials are not returned, the account it is checked out on will be billed for the replacement costs plus a $10.00 processing fee per item.

Holds
If an item in the media collection is currently checked out, a hold may be placed at the Media Center circulation desk. Once a hold has been placed, the current borrower will not be able to renew the item and requestor will be notified as soon as the item is returned.

Missing Items
If an item is not on the shelf (and if it is listed in WebPAC as "check shelves"), please ask for assistance at the Media Center circulation desk. If the item is not located with the help of the media desk assistant, a missing item form will be completed; media staff will search for the item and notify the requestor of results.
