The History Program at Nazareth College assists students in acquiring a knowledge and understanding of the past through a grounding in the discipline of History.
The Department has the following general objectives for all students taking courses within the department. Every History course taught in the Department of History and Political Science will meet these general objectives using a variety of teaching styles and methods. In addition each of the following objectives meets the College wide mission to "educate students in the liberal arts" and to foster "intellectual" values.
Students are expected to:
- Master major historical facts
- Develop an awareness of the approach and methodology of history as a discipline
- Have an understanding of the time frame of historical events and of the collection and analysis of primary source evidence
- Have an acquaintance with the basic works and interpretations of leading scholars in the study of a particular era or field of inquiry (i.e., historiography
