Field Practica

In addition to possible work in Nazareth's on-campus clinics, all students in the School of Health and Human Services obtain clinical experience in a variety of settings within the Greater Rochester community. It is in these settings that students further develop their clinical skills and gain greater insight into the challenges of delivering service to the global Field Practicacommunity while meeting the new demands of the health care system.

"I had been working with our patient Mary for twelve weeks, trying to target the impairments we saw that were a result of a stroke.

Usually, we would walk with Mary down the hallway, holding both of her hands. But on the last day of therapy, we asked Mary to try to walk without holding on to us. She took three nervous steps, trying hard not to reach out and grab either one of us, and she did it!

The full meaning of those three little steps did not hit me until I saw the tears in her eyes...it was then that I realized that to these patients, we're not just students ... we are their therapists."
