From "Where's the dining hall?" to "How can I become involved on campus?" we get all sorts of questions and are happy to answer them OR get the answers for you. Bring your questions to us on the ground floor of Kearney, across from the dining hall entrance. We can help you with:

Problem Solving: Take several hundred new students from a variety of states and backgrounds, put them in rooms with complete strangers, pile on mountains of assigned readings, add the inevitable computer glitches on a First year students getting to know campusday when there are 2 mid-terms papers due and, yes, a problem or two will arise! If you have a problem or just need an ear, come to the FYC. We do more than listen: we do something with the information if we hear about the same problem over and over again. We work closely with other offices to find out where students "fall through the cracks" and propose new initiatives to encourage positive student transitions.

Calendar of Events: The FYC provides a central location for all on-campus events of interest to First Year students. On a monthly basis, we collect schedules and announcements from the college community to produce a calendar that is very full of activities. We also provide information and directions to Rochester area events and locations when you are ready to venture off-campus. You can also check out the online version of the campus-wide Nazareth Events Calendar.

Programming to Promote Engagement: Student leaders, faculty and staff can request funds from the FYC for floor dinners, group outings, museum trips, ice cream down at the canal or whatever other kind of program that is designed to promote bonding and connection to the Nazareth Community. Have an idea? Read the FUSE Guidelines and then submit your idea via the FUSE Request Form.

Emergency Fund: Sometimes things can happen that no one can plan for. When they do, sometimes The First Year Center can help to make times like this a little bit easier.

Education and Training: The FYC educates faculty, staff and student leaders about the unique needs of First Year Students. We also work closely with these groups to create and implement special programming designed to promote bonding and to ease the transition to Nazareth. If you are a student leader and would like the FYC staff to present or facilitate a discussion on first year student needs, program ideas and the like, call the FYC Director at ext. 2884 and we will set something up.
