There are limited types of financial aid for graduate students at Nazareth College. Most students requiring assistance, apply for loans through the Federal Stafford Loan Program. The maximum student loan is a total of $20,500, not to exceed the student's cost of attendance (tuition, fees, books and living allowance). Students must be matriculated and taking at least six credits each semester to be eligible for a loan.

You are eligible to borrow from any lender that participates in the Title IV Federal Stafford Loan program.  Your choice of lender will not affect the manner in which the financial aid office will process your loan application.  We suggest that you consider lenders that have sophisticated student loan capabilities and a tradition of offering quality service to students and families.  As a service to our students who may be undecided on a lender, we share that in our experience the lenders listed below provide quality service.  Our recommendation is made solely on an observed history of service; no inducement or payment of any kind has been made by these lenders; Citibank, HSBC Bank, M&T Bank, National Education and Wachovia Education Finance.

Graduate students taking twelve credits per semester (full time) may be eligible for a TAP award if they meet the state income guidelines. These awards are small and should not be considered in the total funding of graduate tuition. The maximum award per semester is $275.

There are a variety of graduate assistantships available at the College. These opportunities are posted on bulletin boards around campus and in the individual departments. Graduate assistantships are paid directly towards tuition charges and are based on the number of hours worked. The dollar amount of graduate assistantships is calculated in, when determining a student's subsidized loan eligibility.

Students who, as undergraduates, received Perkins loans may write to the Director requesting continuance of these loans at a limited level of funding. Decisions are based on the availability of funds and the student's demonstrated need. There is a limited number of scholarships for graduate students. These scholarships are awarded through the individual departments.

Students enrolled in the post baccalaureate program for secondary teacher certification or a post Master's certification program are non-matriculated. Because of this status, student loan eligibility is reduced to a maximum of $5,500 subsidized and $7,000 additional unsubsidized per academic year. Students are advised to consult with the student loan coordinator to plan their borrowing.
