Professional Certification Program

Program Description:
This program prepares students to effectively teach learners at the childhood level, following an inclusive education model. This program is designed for students who currently hold initial teaching certifications in Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level, and who wish to deepen their understandings and do further work in the area of childhood education.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive New York State Professional Teacher Certification in the following areas:

Childhood Education (Grades 1-6)
Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level (Grades 1-6)

Admission Requirements:

  1. Completion of a baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution with a cumulative index of 3.0 and a B average in the major field.
  2. Presentation of official transcripts.
  3. Two letters of recommendation.
  4. Application and fee.
  5. Completion of the personal-professional statement as described on the application form.
  6. Copies of teacher certifications in Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level.
