Early Childhood
Initial Certification

Program Description:
This program prepares students to effectively teach learners at the early childhood level, following an inclusive education model. This program is designed for students who do not currently hold any teacher certification.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive New York State Initial Teacher Certification in the following two areas:

Early Childhood Education (Birth – Grade 2)
Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level (Birth – Grade 2)

Admission Requirements:

  1. Completion of a baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution with a cumulative index of 3.0 and a B average in the major field.
    (There are liberal arts prerequisites for the Inclusive Childhood Education Initial Certification Program. SEE Graduate Catalog for detailed information.)
  2. Presentation of official transcripts.
  3. Two letters of recommendation.
  4. Application and fee.
  5. Completion of the personal-professional statement as described on the application form.
    (SEE application form for more specific information.)
