Program Description:
This program of study focuses on excellence in middle level education:
the twin purposes of academic preparation and individual self-development
for all young adolescents.
Students who successfully complete this program will extend their
New York State Teacher Certification:
| If students are certified at the
childhood level, the Middle Childhood Extension will extend
their certification up to Grades 7-9. |
| If students are certified at the
adolescence level, the Middle Childhood Extension will extend
their certification down to Grades 5-6. |
Admission Requirements:
- Enrollment in Childhood or Adolescence Inclusive
Education Program at Nazareth College.
- 30 credit hour major/concentration in Biology,
Chemistry, Earth Science, English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics,
Physics, or Social Studies.
OR
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree at an
accredited institution with a cumulative index of 3.0 and a B
average in the major field. Completion of 30 credit hour major/concentration
in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English, Foreign Languages,
Mathematics, Physics, or Social Studies.
- Presentation of official transcripts.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Application and fee.
- Completion of the personal-professional statement
as described on the application form.
- Copy of teacher certification in Childhood
or Adolescence Education.
