Nazareth
College has a range of programs approved by the Regents of New York and the New
York State Education Department. Nazareth students in education programs
can obtain information to apply on-line to New York State Education Department for permanent, initial and professional certification,
extensions and annotations through the Certification Office in the Golisano Academic
Center, Room 298. Usually this process is done during a student's last semester
in a program.
You can contact the Certification Office at 389-2592 or e-mail the attached form to (gpotemp2@naz.edu)
for information to apply on-line.
Part
of the certification process in New York State includes successfully completing
the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations. For further information

Teacher certification requirements differ across
states. For certification information specific to other states, see "United
States Certification Sites" or Google for "Teacher Certification " and the state. The Nazareth library also keeps current
publications on other states.
This is a link to a List of states participating in New York State Interstate Agreements or states with reciprical agreements with New York. These states will take a NYS teaching certificate for the first year of teaching as the individual addresses certification requirements within their new state. It is wise to maintain your New York State certification. Please contact the certification office if you need further information.
Announcement:
The State Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching has developed
a code of ethics for professional educators: The
New York State Code of Ethics for Educators.
The Board of Regents approved
an amendment to Commissioner's Regulations that extends the term of the Initial
certificate to provide teachers with Initial certificates five years to complete
a Master's degree to qualify for Professional certification. Contacting
