Ms. Jackie Bryant
Title: Director of Teacher Opportunity Collaboratives

For over 12 years, Jackie Bryant has worked in partnership with high-need schools in the Rochester City School District (RSCD), the Rochester Teacher Center, and community-based organizations to prepare underrepresented graduate students to teach in the RSCD. After five years, her teachers have an impressive retention rate of over 98% and view themselves as life-long learners and leaders in school improvement. Each year she coordinates grant-funded programs which provide professional development in Mathematics, Science and English Language Arts to over 100 RCSD teachers.

Dr. William C. Cala

William Cala is a visiting professor at Nazareth College and the president of Joining Hearts and Hands (www.joiningheartshands.org), a non-profit organization working to fight AIDS and poverty in Kenya. Prior to his involvement in Africa, Cala was the superintendent of the Fairport Central School District. He recently completed an eight-month assignment as the interim superintendent of the Rochester City School District.

In 2004, Cala was honored by Phi Delta Kappa International which presented him with the Presidential Award for Exceptional Educator Leadership. He also received the George Eastman Award for Courage and Leadership in Public Policy from the Center for Governmental Research, The Genesee Valley Peacemakers Award of 2006 and the Willie Lightfoot Youth Advocate Award of 2006. Cala has been published nationally in professional journals and has been a guest essayist in major newspapers. He has a strong belief in the value of diversity. Most recently, he established the program Embracing the Differences, which brings together families of different cultures to learn and share their backgrounds.

Mary Ann Chiella is the Executive Assistant to Timothy Glander, Dean of the School of Education. She has worked at Nazareth College for more than twenty years in roles such as Secretary to the Education Department Chair, Executive Secretary to the Dean of Graduate Studies, and Coordinator of the Graduate Assistantship program. Ms. Chiella has served on committees including the staff welfare committee and the search committee for the Vice President for Finance, and is an active member of the advisory committee for the Center for Spirituality.

Timothy Glander is the Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Education at Nazareth College. A former high school English teacher in New York City, he spent an early part of his career with the Professional Examination Service, developing licensure and certification examinations for health-related fields. He has also held teaching, research, and administrative positions at Marist College, Ithaca College, University of Illinois at U-C, and Rockhurst University. He is the author of Origins of Mass Communications Research During the American Cold War: Educational Effects and Contemporary Implications (Mahwah, New Jersey: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc. Publishers, 2000) and co-editor (with Karen Graves and Christine Shea) of Inexcusable Omissions: Clarence Karier and the Critical Tradition in History of Education Scholarship (New York: Peter Lang Publishers, 2001). His articles and reviews have appeared in Educational Studies, Educational Theory, Educational Change, History of Education Quarterly and other journals.

Ms. Patricia A. Huntington

For more than 25 years, Patricia Huntington has enjoyed her work with college students of all ages and backgrounds. Early in her higher education career, she lived and worked in the residence halls as a residence hall director and career counselor. She has served the College in many ways: as a counselor and Director of Continuing and Professional Education, as an instructor of freshman seminar, and as Director of Academic Support Services in the School of Education. Ms. Huntington comments, "Nazareth College is a very special place. The students are a delight to work with. Working on a college campus is extremely rewarding."

Ms. Meredith Kahl

Meredith Kahl joined the Nazareth community at age three as part of the very first class to come through the campus Child Care Center, and returned many years later to complete her B.A. in English (Professional Communications Program). While enrolled as a student, Meredith worked in several areas of the campus including Graduate Studies, Athletics, and the History Department. She brings a student perspective, combined with her knowledge of the campus as a student employee to her work in the School of Education.
