Dr. Ellen G. Horovitz

Dr. Ellen G. Horovitz , ATR-BC. LCAT
Art Therapy Program Director

Ellen G. Horovitz is Professor / Director of Graduate Art Therapy and the Art Therapy Clinic at Nazareth College of Rochester. She has had over thirty years of experience with myriad patient populations and specializes in family art therapy with the Deaf. Dr. Horovitz currently is in private practice and is the author of numerous articles, book chapters and the following books: Spiritual Art Therapy: An Alternate Path ; A Leap of Faith: The Call to Art; Art Therapy As Witness: A Sacred Guide and Visually Speaking: Art Therapy and the Deaf. As well, Dr. Horovitz has directed and produced ten films available in DVD format. (Dr. Horovitz's films are available through www.arttxfilms.com). She is past President Elect of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) currently serves as a Board Director for the Society for the Arts in Healthcare (www.theSAH.org) and is Media Editor for the forthcoming Society for the Arts in Healthcare journal, Arts and Health: Research, Policy and Practice.

Dr. Bryan Hunter

Dr. Bryan Hunter, Ph.D, MT-BC; LCAT
Music Therapy Program Director

Bryan Hunter is Chair of the Creative Arts Therapy Department and Professor and Director of Music Therapy at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, a position held since 1982. As Past-President of the National Association for Music Therapy, he helped lead the organization in a successful effort to unify with the American Association for Music Therapy, forming the American Music Therapy Association in 1998. In addition, Dr. Hunter is an adjunct professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he conducts music therapy clinical outcome research with physician, Dr. O.J. Sahler. Currently, he is implementing a national research award from the American Music Therapy Association to study the effects of music therapy in assisting patients to wean from mechanical ventilation. His research and consultations with Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester General Hospital, and Lifetime Care have resulted in the establishment of full time music therapy positions held currently held by Nazareth graduates. Dr. Hunter is also a member and past chair of the New York State Board for Mental Health Practitioners. In 2005 he was awarded the very first license as a Creative Arts Therapist by the State of New York.

Dr. Stephen Demanchick, LMHC, NCC

Stephen P. Demanchick is is an Assistant Professor for the Creative Arts Department at Nazareth College. He received his MS.Ed from SUNY Brockport's Counselor Education Department. He earned his Ph.D. in counseling from the University of Rochester in October 2007. Stephen is also a NIRE certified child-centered play therapist. He teaches CAT 530 Culminating Project and Thesis, PSY 534 Psychopathology, PSY 535 Principles & Techniques of Counseling, CAT 677 Methods and Research, and CAT 680 Current Topics: Play Therapy. His clinical interests include play therapy, filial therapy, school-based prevention, and clinical supervision. His connection to the local community includes work with the Easter Seals and the Children's Institute.

 

Betsey King

Betsey King, Ph.D, MMT, MT-BC

Betsey King is an Assistant Professor in the Music Therapy and Creative Arts Therapy programs at Nazareth College.  She began her music career as a violinist, studying with Dorothy DeLay at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has been a board-certified music therapist since 1984, working in a wide range of clinical areas including special education, physical rehabilitation, medical, forensic and gerontology settings. As the co-founder of Prelude Music Therapy, Dr. King has created and authored songbooks, therapy materials, and instructional texts, and she is a frequent workshop leader and journal author. With Kathleen Coleman, she is the author of the SEMTAP: Special Education Music Therapy Assessment Process, an evaluation tool now in use across the country. Her book, Music Therapy: Another Path to Learning and Communication for Children in the Autism Spectrum is in its third printing with Future Horizons, Inc. Prior to coming to Nazareth, she served as assistant professor and head of the Music Therapy Department at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Her current research interests focus on the impact of harmony as an aspect of music therapy sessions.

Lori Higgins, MS, MS, ATR-BC, LCAT

Lori Higgins is the Art Therapy Clinic Supervisor  and Assistant Professor/ Clinical Faculty of Nazareth College of Rochester. Ms. Higgins is a recipient of the "Award for Excellence in Art Therapy" from Nazareth College of Rochester, She holds a second Master's of Science degree in Special Education, specializing in emotional and behavioral disorders. Her background includes employment as the director of an adolescent boys unit at Gerard of Minnesota, a residential psychiatric treatment hospital for children and adolescents. Ms. Higgins also has over ten years with special needs children and adults, home-based family therapy, crisis line advocacy and co-facilitation of group therapy for emergency services and domestic violence.

Darlene Esposito, MS,, ATR, LCAT

Darlene Esposito is  the Clinical Instructor and Co-Site Coordinator for the Graduate Art Therapy Program at Nazareth College. Ms. Esposito has over ten years experience working as an art therapist with a variety of populations. She has worked at the following placements: Hillside Children's Center, Genesee Hospital Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, Jewish Home for the Aged, Men's Domestic Violence Program of Genesee Hospital, Park Ridge Chemical Dependency Program, Strong Memorial Hospital , and most recently at FACIT (Family Assessment Crisis Intervention Team) for the Rochester Police Department. Ms. Esposto teaches ATR 504 & ATR 505 Art Therapy Internship & Counseling.

 

Elizabeth Montella Mott

Elizabeth Montella Mott, MS, ATR-BC, LCAT

Elizabeth Montella Mott is  Clinical Instructor and Co-Site Coordinator at Nazareth College. She is a graduate of State University of Buffalo's Art Therapy program. Ms. Mott was an adjunct in the Special Education program at Nazareth College from 1990-1994. She worked as an art therapist at Crestwood Children's Center from 1986 until 2006 is currently in private practice and specializes in art therapy with dually diagnosed, emotionally disturbed children aged 3-21.

 

 

Robin B. Shiffrin

Robin B. Shiffrin M.S. Ed., M.S. MFT, LMFT

Robin B. Shiffrin is an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College and teaches CAT 526, Family Therapy and Counseling Techniques. Ms. Shiffrin is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, also working with families through the Spencerport Family Support Center. She has a B.S. from Cornell University in Human Development and Family Studies, an M.S. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and an second M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. A former educator, Ms. Shiffrin has over thirty years of experience working with children and families in varying capacities. Her private practice allows her to work with individuals, couples and families. A special focus for her is working with individuals and families around transitional issues. She has been involved in teaching parenting classes, and has co-authored a Jewish leader's guide to the teen parenting program: Please Stop the Rollercoaster: How Parents of Teenagers Can Smooth Out the Ride.

Craig Bullock

 

Craig Bullock MS, M.Div.

Craig Bullock is an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College. He is a psychotherapist in private practice, with graduate degrees in religious studies (University of Notre Dame) and clinical psychology (University of Duquesne). In addition, he is the founding director of the Assisi Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with kids at risk for drug addiction, underachievement, and violence. He is a much-sought-after lecturer and retreat director. He is also the author of The Path of Healing: Experiencing God as Love as well as the recording Silence, Stillness & The Sacred Source: Reflection and Meditation. Anne Coltre

Anne Coltre, MS, ADTR, LMHC, LCAT

Anne Coltre is an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College. She has been active in the area of dance and Dance Movement Therapy since the late 1970s. Founder of the Rochester Dance Collective in 1980, she was the first dancer to receive a grant in the Arts Reach Program while teaching dance in several area colleges including SUNY Brockport. A graduate of Antioch New England Graduate school in 1985, she brought Dance Movement Therapy to many local mental health institutions including Genesee Mental Health, Monroe Community Hospital, Park Ridge Mental Health and The Jewish Home Adult Day Program where she was the recipient of the 1997 Fieldmen Foundation Award. She was employed at Hillside Children's Center for 11 years where she worked as a Dance Movement Therapist with children, adolescents and their families. Ms. Coltre is 'DBT Intensively Trained', and combines counseling, the creative arts therapies and DBT skills in her private practice, where she works with adults, children and adolescents.

Stella Stepney

Stella Stepney, MS,, ATR-BC, LCAT

Stella A. Stepney is an adhunct faculty member at Nazareth College. Ms. Stepney is a graduate of the Nazareth College Graduate Art Therapy Program and is a recipient of the "Award for Excellence in Art Therapy" from Nazareth College. She holds a New York State Teacher Certification in Art Education. Ms. Stepney is the author of Art Therapy with Students at Risk: Introducing Art Therapy into an Alternative Environment for Adolescents. Ms. Stepney worked as a primary therapist in the Outpatient Clinic at Crestwood Children's Center in Rochester, NY. Ms. Stepney is affiliated with the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), American Counseling Association (ACA), and the Association for Creativity in Counseling (ACC). She is Chair of the AATA Distance Learning Subcommittee and a member of the AATA Multicultural Committee.

Pat Bishop

 

Pat Bishop, MS, ATR-BC, LCAT

Patricia Bishop is an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College Ms. Bishop is an artist who obtained her BS in Studio Art and later an MS in Art Therapy at Nazareth College.She has been employed at Rochester Rehabilitation Center as a Primary Therapist and Group Art Therapist in the Partial Hospitalization Program and the Continuing Day Treatment Program for Older Adults serving individuals with acute and chronic mental illness. Ms. Bishop has experience in individual, group, and family therapy. She specializes in Major Depressive and Bipolar Disorders with special attention to medical issues contributing to mental health instability within the elderly population. She also has extensive experience with other chronic mental health disorders including Schizophrenia, Generalized Anxiety, and Personality and Psychotic Disorders.

Sharon F. Scott

Sharon F. Scott, MS, ATR-BC, LCAT

Sharon F. Scott is an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College and teaches ATR 506-508. Ms. Scott is an artist/photographer and completed her undergraduate work in Studio Art at Nazareth College and received her MS in Art Therapy from the Nazareth College Art Therapy Program. Ms. Scott developed and directs a studio based art therapy program at Heritage Christian Services, Inc. Ms. Scott specializes in providing individual and group art therapy services for dually diagnosed developmentally disabled adults throughout the life cycle.
