Individual and Relationship Counseling
Counseling Services offers students professional help on a confidential basis. While counseling usually involves meeting on a one to one basis, there are times when people who are in relationships (e.g., couples, roommates, family members, friends) come in together. The number of sessions varies depending on the needs of the student. A session generally lasts fifty minutes.

Group Counseling
Groups are offered for personal development and skill enhancement. Meeting with others in a group counseling setting can provide both the support and challenge necessary for self-exploration and growth. Some groups that have been offered have addressed the following issues: relationships, eating disorders, self esteem, balancing work, home and school, test anxiety, assertiveness, sexual abuse and women's issues.
If you have an issue or concern that you believe may be best addressed in a group setting, please contact us at ext. 2887 on campus.
Consultation
Counseling Services staff are available to all faculty, staff, administrators and students for consultation. This includes referral questions as well as other issues such as: dealing with students in need, situation management, information and discussion of issues of concern.
Contact us at ext. 2887 on campus or 585-389-2887 off campus.
Crisis Intervention
A crisis is defined as a situation in which a person's usual coping patterns and mechanisms seem inadequate to effectively deal with the level of stress experienced, or one which requires an immediate response to safeguard the well-being of the individual and/or the community.
Individuals responding to crises may ideally consider several key components in their response:
- Remain calm
- Convey respect
- Protect privacy
- Assume a non-judgmental attitude
- Provide reassurance
- Utilize community resources
The staff of Counseling Services are available for crisis management and consultation regarding such situations.
