Children Making Music is a class for four– and five–year olds, designed to provide opportunities for them to sing, play classroom instruments, improvise, and actively listen and move to music. The instruction combines educational approaches of Dalcroze, Orff and Kodály, engaging all musical abilities. The learning will take place in a playful environment that will ensure the children’s eager participation and enjoyment. At the conclusion of the program, parents and families will be invited for a musical program during which the children will present some of the songs and activities they have learned in the class.
The class will meet for 45 minutes on Wednesday afternoons for eight sessions. A maximum of 15 students will be enrolled. In order to ensure a place in the class, registration and full payment are required by the due date (see below).
Bozena Granat, MA, class instructor, is a music educator with twelve years of elementary teaching experience in Massachusetts and New York State public schools. She majored in piano and eurhythmics at the State Conservatory of Music in Rzeszów, Poland; and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s in musicology and music education from Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. She continued her studies in music education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and holds both Massachusetts and New York State teaching certificates in music. In addition to teaching preschool and elementary music, she is also an accomplished pianist, organist, and choir director. Mrs. Granat believes that engaging young children in fun musical activities, such as those offered in the Children Making Music class, will not only increase their sensitivity to music but also enhance the development of their concentration, coordination, and many gross motor skills.
