Our primary concern is to prepare international students for academic study at Nazareth College or elsewhere. The curriculum takes the student from a beginning level of English to university level.
We strongly believe that a student must develop a wide variety of language skills to be successful and fully participate in university classes. ALI instructors are dedicated to providing each student the necessary skills. Through reading, writing, speaking, and listening, we give students an opportunity to improve fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Students learn by doing. After class, U. S. culture is introduced through conversational activities. Asking questions and sharing feelings are highly encouraged.
The American classroom has a distinct "culture." Study and test habits, note taking, and research skills are demonstrated and discussed. Some international students have difficulty adjusting to what is expected by American teachers and professors. Becoming aware of the differences in classroom approaches is crucial to your success.
Preparation for the Test of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL, is covered in a special class. Indeed, every class can be considered preparation. The more a student can participate in the entire program, the more pronounced the student's progress will be.
We invite you to join us. Our only goal is to help you in reaching your goals.
