What We Offer

The American Language Institute at Nazareth College offers programs in English Language, Business English, and English for Health Care and American Culture to international students and faculty, foreign professionals and members of the greater Rochester community. Whether your goal is acceptance into an undergraduate or graduate program, improved business, professional or personal communication, or a higher level of achievement in previously undertaken studies, ALI Trees of Nazareth Campus programs can help.

Our program

The American Language Institute at Nazareth College provides excellent instruction in the four major components of language -- reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Pronunciation is emphasized. Classes are offered in six 8-week sessions. Each student is required to take 20 hours of classes each week. The 4-hour preparation class for the Test of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL, is optional. Placement in the program is based on the Student Oral Language Observation Matrix, (SOLOM), and a writing sample. Students may be placed in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels based on the results of this test. If necessary, Nazareth College is able to issue an "I-20" to obtain a student (F-1) visa. Passing the TOEFL and becoming a successful American university student is our ultimate goal for you.
