Valencia: Student Testimonials

The teachers' "primary objective was that we understood and learned the material."
Studying abroad in Valencia Spain was a great experience. I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge of Spanish right from the beginning, using the language daily to communicate. I found it easy to talk in class, and outside of class I could get around easily while shopping and getting around the city. Also, I learned a lot being with my host family.
The faculty at the Institute was wonderful. The teachers were more than willing to answer questions or discuss topics we were interested in. Their primary objective was that we understood and learned the material. While classes were in Spanish, the instructors always reiterated the information in different ways and always asked if we understood or had any questions.
As students in Nazareth's Valencia Residential Program, we also had the benefit of having Amy Sevcik, the Resident Assistant Director be our problem solver. Amy was there with us the day we arrived. The initial orientation really helped us find out about important things to know. Throughout the entire semester we could contact Amy at any time through her cellphone or at home.
Studying in Valencia gave me the opportunity to experience the history and culture of the country firsthand. It was a totally different experience than what you get just by reading about it or being in an American classroom.
During my time in Valencia, there were plenty of opportunities to travel. This was in the form of excursions arranged by the school to historical sites in and out of the city. We also traveled independently on trips we arranged ourselves. When I traveled, I found things went well for me, including communicating in the language.
There's lots to do in Valencia. It is a large city and the public transport makes it really easy to get around. And don't forget the beach! It's close by, and you can pop over when you want. And of course, if you prefer to swim in a big pool, you can find a great big one right down from the school.
