Chemistry Department

Chemistry is the study of the behavior of matter. As such, it is a discipline that is central to all of the natural sciences, and is also important in such matters as providing food and shelter, conserving our natural resources, and understanding the many products available for us to purchase. The Department of Chemistry at Nazareth College seeks to provide the guidance and the learning environment for a scholar to advance his or her knowledge of chemistry and its relation to other fields of study.

The goals of this Department are to assist students in developing the critical thinking and laboratory skills which will provide them with the ability to discover patterns in natural behavior, analyze relationships, and sort out the relevant from the irrelevant. Our students learn to reconcile new information with existing knowledge and to judge the validity of new information. We provide students with a forum to demonstrate clear, lucid communication. We try to show the creativity of the scientific process and to put inquiry back into learning. Most importantly, our students take with them the skill and confidence to become lifelong learners.
