Statement Students in my courses learn how to challenge themselves, to discover a passion for scientific investigation, and to have fun along the way. It is very important to me that my students learn how to do science and not just memorize facts. The fun in science is in the asking of questions and then designing experiments to answer those questions. In addition, I utilize active learning mechanisms that get students involved in the game and not just observing from the sidelines.
My teaching responsibilities are largely in Organic Chemistry and Undergraduate Research – Organic Chemistry I (CHM 251), Organic Chemistry I Lab (CHM 253L), Organic Chemistry II (CHM 252), Organic Chemistry II Lab (CHM 254L), Advanced Organic Chemistry (CHM 435), and Undergraduate Research (CHM 261, CHM 262, CHM 461, CHM 462). I have also been involved in General Chemistry (CHM 145, CHM 146L, CHM 147, CHM 148L), Chemistry Seminar (CHM 451), and Medicinal Chemistry (Special Topics Course, CHM 447). |
