"Monitoring Sequence and Stability of Therapeutic Proteins
with Peptide Mapping"

Frank Maggio, Ph.D.
Bristol-Myers Squibb
Syracuse, New York

Dr. Alicia Carroll with Dr. Frank Maggio and
Chardey Lewis, Biochemistry ('12)

Dr. Maggio grew up in Queens, NY and attended Adelphi University as an undergraduate.  He graduated with a B.S. in Biology and then went on to earn a Masters degree in Biology from Hofstra University.  During his time at Hofstra, Dr. Maggio examined invertebrate pericardial cells and their role as the reticuloendothelial system.  After receiving his Masters degree, he decided to continue his education and entered the graduate program in biomedical sciences at the University of Connecticut Health Center.  There he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Glenn F. King and his thesis work was focused on developing the next generation of insect control strategies using insecticidal neurotoxins obtained from the (deadly) Australian funnel web spider.  During his time in Connecticut he also worked as a part-time faculty member in the department of biological sciences at Central Connecticut State University.  After receiving his Ph.D. from UCONN in 2004 he moved to Syracuse, NY to work at Bristol-Myers Squibb in the department of technical analytical services.  There he has been successful in developing biochemical assays to test potential new pharmaceutical agents, and has become the peptide map and oligosaccharide subject matter expert for the technical analytical services group at Bristol.
