Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the Nazareth College Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry website. Now that you are here, please take a few moments to navigate the site and explore the academic opportunities as well as the student initiatives of the department. We are very excited about the focus of our ACS-accredited programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry.

First and foremost, our dynamic faculty is 100% committed to teaching and to providing our students with an energized and enthusiastic environment to learn science. Faculty members in our department utilize innovative teaching strategies that not only assist in student understanding but engage them in the learning process. Case studies, journal clubs, peer-learning, guided inquiry, and independent research are used to enrich and expand the scientific development of our students. We encourage and invite prospective students to visit the campus and to sit in on a Chemistry or Biochemistry class so that you can experience firsthand what we can offer you.

We are also very excited about the undergraduate research opportunities that are available to our students. Currently, we have research projects involving alternative fuels, the chemistry of wine, and molecular design at the interface of biology, chemistry, and medicine. Please visit the undergraduate research page to learn more about these remarkable research projects.

Finally, we are particularly proud of the success of our alumni. Our alumni are accepted to competitive graduate programs and medical schools and readily find positions in the work force. Our Chemistry Education graduates are also highly regarded and are sought after by local school districts.

Therefore, please feel free to contact me at tknoerz7@naz.edu with any questions or to schedule a visit or you can contact our Laboratory Coordinator, Jane Shebert at jsheber0@naz.edu.
