Nazareth College is committed to encouraging and facilitating community service. The College also recognizes that many students need jobs to pay for their educational expenses. Students who serve in Partners for Serving Programs are paid $7.50 per hour through campus Work Study or campus employment.  All majors are welcome to apply.

Partners for Serving is a program that places Nazareth College students at human service agencies in the city of Rochester. Partners work with St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center, The Sojourner House, The Center for Youth Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Hillside Family of Agencies, Compeer, and The Community Place.

At these sites, Partners provide mentoring and care for homeless youth, youth with mental health concerns, youth and families in transitional housing, and adults in need of health care and counseling. Partners for Serving requires a 3-12 hour commitment per week, with the majority of those hours occurring early evenings and on weekends. Workshops and trainings are required.

The goals of the program are:

  • to help human service agencies in the Rochester area meet the needs of the people they serve
  • to give Nazareth College students a unique work experience that enables them to feel connected to the community as well as tie their educational experiences to what they are learning at site and vice versa.

Partners play a large role in the success of this program. We are looking for people who are dedicated, work well as a member of a team, are interested in helping others, have great problem solving, communication, and leadership skills. Leadership opportunities are available within the program through the Partners Council.
