Dean's Message

Dr. Deborah DooleyLiberal arts and sciences are by name and nature the studies that free us to explore who we are and to test out aspects of the person we want to become. The number of credits devoted to this core of English, Mathematics, the Social and Natural Sciences, Philosophy, Religious Studies, History, the Arts and Foreign Languages is a testimony to how important your discovery of that person is. Our extraordinary, gifted faculty and our utterly dedicated staff are deeply interested in you, in the success of your studies here, and in what happens to you as a student on this campus and in your life.

Ted Sorenson, an advisor for President Kennedy, offered these words of John Wesley in a 2006 commencement speech at Nebraska Wesleyan University:

"Do all the good you can
By all the means you can
In all the ways you can
In all the places you can
At all the times you can
To all the people you can
As long as ever you can."

Sorenson ended by saying to the graduating class: "That is the difficult test for our country and for your generation."

Nazareth College is the place where you can create the foundation for passing this most important test -- a place where liberal study can help you to become a wiser person and a more engaged citizen, a place where you will learn not only ways to make a living, but also ways to make a life. I hope that Nazareth will be as important a place in your life as it was in mine; we will do our very best to help you make that happen.
