N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2006) -- Freshman Katelynn
Reed, a freshman middle hitter on the
Nazareth women's volleyball team, has been named
Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week for the
seven-day period that ended Nov. 4.
Reed, a native of Horseheads, N.Y. and a graduate
of Horseheads High School, hit .594 with 21 kills,
32 attacks, and just two errors in the conference
semifinal match against Ithaca and championship
match against RIT on Saturday. She also added
five blocks, six digs, and three service aces
during the matches. The win over RIT clinched
an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the
Golden Flyers (17-20). It will be Nazareth’s
seventh appearance in the NCAA tournament but
its first since 2003.
Reed has posted 256 kills and leads the team
with 79 service aces and a hitting percentage
of .307.
The Golden Flyers will travel to Grand Rapids,
Mich. to play 11th-ranked Calvin on Thursday in
the first round of the NCAA tournament. Match
time is 8:30 p.m.
