PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2006) -- Sophomore Laura Persico (pictured) was named tournament MVP Saturday as Nazareth defeated the host school in four games to win the Cardinal Classic at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Perisco combined 19 kills with 14 digs and six service aces as Nazareth defeated Plattsburgh in the championship match. Scores were 30-25, 28-30, 30-8, 31-29. Freshman Carra Vanderstyne added 18 kills and 15 digs and freshman Natasha Villane had 23 digs. SEtters Elyse Monje and Kate Zwickl each had 27 assists as Nazareth improved its overall record to 9-14.

Earlier in the day Saturday Nazareth defeated Norwich in three games 30-20, 30-18, 30-17 and lost to St. Lawrence in five games 25-30, 30-28, 30-24, 24-30, 15-13. Zwickl had 35 assists and eight digs against Norwich and Persico posted a career-high 24 kills against St. Lawrence.

Nazareth visits RIT for an Empire 8 Conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
