NAZARETH WINS TWICE AT ONEONTA

ONEONTA, N.Y. (Sept. 1,2006) -- Junior Elizabeth Tregan (pictured) amassed 23 kills in two matches and sophomore Laura Persico added 18 kills Friday as Nazareth opened its women's volleyball season with a pair of victories at the Holiday Inn/Red Dragon Invitational at SUNY Oneonta.

Nazareth opened with a four-game victory over St. Lawrence 30-16, 30-7, 29-31, 30-19. The Golden Flyers followed that up with a three-game sweep of Plattsburgh 30-22, 30-28, 30-26. Action resumes Saturday with the Golden Flyers playing Scranton at 11 a.m. and Potsdam at 3 p.m.

In the match against St. Lawrence, Persico had 15 kills against four hitting errors for a hitting percentage of .367. Tregan had 14 kills and just three errors with a .423 percentage. Sophomore Elyse Monje had 24 assists and freshman Kate Zwickl had 15 assists. Freshman defensive specialist Nathasha Villane had 11 digs.

Against Plattsburgh, Tregan and freshman Kristina Mueller each posted nine kills and Zwickl amassed 34 assists and six service aces. Villane contributed 19 digs.
