N.Y. (March 24, 2007) -- Sophomore Joe Petzoldt
(pictured) had 18 kills and junior Tom Maving
had 17 Saturday as Nazareth defeated Villa Julie
in its final regular-season match to clinch the
North East Collegiate Volleyball Association's
West Division title.
In a match played at a neutral site at Medaille
College, Nazareth defeated Villa Julie in four
games 30-26, 30-20, 28-30, 32-30 to finish the
regular season at 21-6, including a 9-1 mark
in conference matches.
Nazareth finished one game better than D'Youville,
which had a 15-match winning streak snapped by
Eastern Mennonite Saturday to fall to 22-10 overall
and 7-2 in NECVA matches. D'Youville plays its
final regular-season match Sunday against Villa
Julie.
Nazareth also got a strong effort from junior
Kellen Gambeski, who contributed 16 kills and
three blocks.
Nazareth will be host to next weekend's 16-team
NECVA Tournament with the winner gaining an automatic
berth to the Moulten Division III Championship
at Juniata April 13-14. |
