N.J. (Jan. 28, 2007) -- Nazareth split four matches
over the weekend at the Stevens Invitational in
men's volleyball.
Nazareth, ranked 13th nationally in Division
III, is 3-3 following wins over Baruch 3-1 (30-26,
22-30, 30-20, 30-27) and Hunter 3-0 (30-18, 33-31,
30-26) and loses to tournament champion Stevens
3-1 (30-25, 25-30, 30-25, 30-25) and Eastern Mennonite
3-1 (30-24, 23-30, 30-22, 30-26).
All-tournament team selection Tom Maving (pictured)
had a strong weekend for Nazareth as he produced
50 kills in 14 games and a .290 hitting percentage.
He had 20 kills in the Golden Flyers' three-game
sweep of Hunter.
Senior Shaun Tyszka also made the all-tournament
team with 23 kills and eight blocks. Sophomore
setter Frank Leahy had 101 assists for an average
of 10 per game. Sophomore Chris DeHority amassed
46 digs, including 12 against Hunter to go with
a career-best 13 kills.
Nazareth returns to action Thursday for a North
East Collegiate Volleyball Association match at
D'Youville at 7 p.m. Nazareth was scheduled to
host Hilbert Tuesday, but the matched was postponed
with no make-up date set.
