NAZARETH DEFEATS EASTERN MENNONITE IN 5
Golden Flyers (10-3) win first two games of Nazareth Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2007) -- Nazareth defeated 11th-ranked Eastern Mennonite in its second match of the Nazareth Invitational. The Golden Flyers won in five-games -- 30-26, 27-30, 20-30, 30-27, 15-13.

The Golden Flyers have won seven consecutive matches and remain undefeated at 6-0 in NECVA conference matches. The Golden Flyers are 10-3 overall. With the loss, the Royals fall to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in NECVA conference matches.

Nazareth used a balanced attack to defeat the Royals as junior Tom Maving recorded 18 kills and nine digs and senior Shaun Tyszka and sophomore Joe Petzoldt each recorded 16 kills. Sophomore Frank Leahy recorded 62 assists in the 5-game match.

Brandan Ratliff recorded 27 kills on 55 attempts for Eastern Mennonite.

The Golden Flyers play against Vassar in their next game Saturday, February 10 at 10 a.m.

In Nazareth's opening match against Ramapo, Joe Petzoldt had 12 kills and five digs Friday as eighth-ranked Nazareth won in three games. The Golden Flyers defeated Ramapo 30-22, 30-27, 30-23.

The win was the sixth straight for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 9-3 overall. Ramapo also is 9-3. Nazareth plays Eastern Mennonite Friday at 6 p.m.

Tom Maving added 10 kills in 17 attempts and Shaun Tyszka had eight kills in 12 attempts to go with five blocks for Nazareth. setter Frank Leahy had 47 assists.

Shane Donohue and Brendan Whitford each had 11 kills for Ramapo and Tom Kohler had 10.
