Golden Flyers (17-3) have won 15 straight matches

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 5, 2007) -- Tom Maving, a junior outside hitter on the Nazareth men's volleyball team, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending March 4, 2007. It was the second national player of the week award for Maving, who also was honored Feb. 12.

A native of Tonawanda, N.Y. and a graduate of Canisius High School, the 6-foot-1 Maving amassed 67 kills as Nazareth won four matches to extend its winning streak to 15 matches and to improve to 17-3 overall. The Golden Flyers entered last week's play ranked seventh nationally in Division III.

Maving was named Most Valuable Player at Endicott's March Mania Invitational in Beverly, Mass. Nazareth defeated three nationally ranked teams along the way and Maving compiled a .447 hitting percentage. He also had five service aces, 17 digs and seven blocks.

In the title match, Nazareth defeated eighth-ranked Clarke College in four games. Maving had 22 kills against just four errors in 32 hitting attempts for a .562 hitting percentage. He also registered three service aces.

Maving leads the Golden Flyers with 257 kills (3.84 per game) to go with a hitting percentage of .389. Nazareth returns to action Wednesday for a match at Medaille at 7 p.m.
