PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN

ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (March 5, 2007) -- Tom Maving, a junior outside
hitter on the Nazareth men's volleyball team,
has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA National
Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending
March 4, 2007. It was the second national player
of the week award for Maving, who also was honored
Feb. 12.
A native of Tonawanda, N.Y. and a graduate of
Canisius High School, the 6-foot-1 Maving amassed
67 kills as Nazareth won four matches to extend
its winning streak to 15 matches and to improve
to 17-3 overall. The Golden Flyers entered last
week's play ranked seventh nationally in Division
III.
Maving was named Most Valuable Player at Endicott's
March Mania Invitational in Beverly, Mass. Nazareth
defeated three nationally ranked teams along the
way and Maving compiled a .447 hitting percentage.
He also had five service aces, 17 digs and seven
blocks.
In the title match, Nazareth defeated eighth-ranked
Clarke College in four games. Maving had 22 kills
against just four errors in 32 hitting attempts
for a .562 hitting percentage. He also registered
three service aces.
Maving leads the Golden Flyers with 257 kills
(3.84 per game) to go with a hitting percentage
of .389. Nazareth returns to action Wednesday
for a match at Medaille at 7 p.m.
