MAVING NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Golden Flyers (12-3) have won nine straight matches

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2007) -- Tom Maving, a junior outside hitter on the Nazareth men's volleyball team, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending Feb. 11, 2007.

A native of Tonawanda, N.Y. and a graduate of Canisius High School, the 6-foot-1 Maving amassed 76 kills as Nazareth won five matches last week to improve to 12-3 overall. He posted a fine hitting percentage of .477 and had 26 digs and 10 blocks.

Maving was named Most Valuable Player of the Nazareth Invitational over the weekend. He had 18 kills and six digs as Nazareth defeated ninth-ranked D'Youville in four games in Saturday's title match. He also had 18 kills and nine digs in a five-game win over 12th-ranked Eastern Mennonite on Friday. Maving is the first Nazareth player to be honored as national player of the week.

Nazareth, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, has won nine straight matches following a 3-3 start. Maving leads the team in kills with 179 (3.58 per game) and has a hitting percentage of .359. Nazareth was scheduled to play at Hilbert Wednesday, but the match has been postponed.
