led a balanced offensive attack with 20 kills
Thursday as visiting Nazareth scored its first-ever
victory over D'Youville in men's volleyball. The
Golden Flyers won in four games -- 30-24, 25-30,
30-28, 30-24.
Nazareth entered the match ranked 12th nationally
in Division III and improved to 4-3 overall and
1-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association.
D'Youville, ranked seventh nationally, is 3-8
overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Nazareth, now in its third season of intercollegiate
play, had dropped five previous meetings with
D'Youville. Thursday's match was the teams' first
meeting this season. The teams have another regular-season
meeting Feb. 28 at Nazareth.
In Thursday's match, Nazareth used a solid .351
team hitting percentage to prevail. Clemens had
an overall percentage of .324. Junior Tom Maving
also had a strong match with 15 kills and a .545
hitting percentage. Sophomore Kelvin Rolle had
10 kills and senior Shaun Tyszka and junior Kellen
Gambeski each had nine. Sophomore setter Frank
Leahy had 49 assists.
Nazareth plays three more conference matches
this weekend at Villa Julie In Maryland. The Golden
Flyers meet ninth-ranked Eastern Mennonite Friday
at 7 p.m., followed by two matches Saturday --
Villa Julie at 9 a.m. and Philadelphia Biblical
at 11 a.m.
