Cal Wickens, coach and director of the Rochester Volleyball Club
for more than two decades and head coach of the Nazareth women's
volleyball team for the past three seasons, guided the Nazareth
men's volleyball team in their first season in 2005.
The Golden Flyers finished 10-13 overall as members of the North
East Collegiate Volleyball Association's Western Division. The conference
has 34 members overall. Nazareth is joined in the Western Division
by D'Youville, Eastern Mennonite, Hilbert, Medaille, Philadelphia
Biblical and Villa Julie.
For Wickens, Nazareth is 59-46 in three seasons of women's volleyball,
including an Empire 8 Conference title and an NCAA Division III
Tournament berth in his first season in 2003.
A native of Santa Monica, Calif., Wickens started the Rochester
Volleyball Club in 1979. The club includes the Volley FX girls'
team and the Pace Bootlegger boys' team. The boys' team won the
18-and-under AAU National Championship in 1990 and has been national
runner-up six other times. The team also captured the USA Men's
National Championship in 2000.
Wickens
also has coached at numerous camps and clinics and served for 10
years as try-out coach for the USA High Performance/Youth National
Team.
Wickens has an Associate in Occupational Studies degree from the
Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. He also has taken
classes at Rochester Institute of Technology, Birmingham College
of Food, Tourism, and Creative Studies in England, Roberts Wesleyan,
and Oswego State. |
