ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2006) -- Nazareth's indoor track
and field season officially began Thursday as
a handful of athletes competed at the RIT Invitational
at the Tigers' Gordon Fieldhouse.
No team scoring was kept, but the Golden Flyers
set eight school records during the single day
of competition.
Freshman Jeremy Chapline set two records -- in
the shot put (12.56 mters) and the weight throw
(10.83 meters) -- to finish fifth and 11th respectively.
Freshman Matt Case (pictured) finished third
in the 200-meter dash in :24.13 seconds. He also
competed in the 4 x 200-meter relay that finished
second and set a record with a time of 1:34.07.
Jon Qazi, Chris McBride and Brandon Wheeler also
competed in that race.
McBride placed sixth in the long jump with a
record leap of 5.81 meters and freshman Dan Matteo
was seventh in the pole vault at 3.5 meters (11
feet, 5 3/4 inches).
In the women's competition, junior Meredith Coon
turned in a second-place finish in the shot put
as she broke her own record with a toss of 10.73
meters (35 feet, 2 1/2 inches). In addition, junior
Liz Pfleghardt was third in the 5,000-meter run
in 20:04.23.
