NAZARETH PERFORMS WELL AT MUHLENBERG
Coon, Wheeler, Sirtoli, and Stenuf claim first place finishes

ALLENTOWN, PA (Mar. 31, 2007) – Junior Meredith Coon (pictured) placed first in the discus event with a throw of 33.52 meters and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.11 meters to claim a first place finish for the Golden Flyers at the Muhlenberg Invitational. No team scores were kept in the men's or women's meet but a number of athletes performed well.

Freshman Melissa Cutcliffe placed third in the women’s long jump with a leap of 4.64 meters while freshmen Emily Tierney and Elizabeth Way placed fifth and sixth in the triple jump with leaps of 9.49 meters and 9.25 meters respectively. Senior Carrie Land finished fourth in the pole vault after vaulting eight feet and freshman Jill Egmond placed sixth with a vault of seven feet, six inches.

In running events, junior Ashley Hughes placed second in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 19:05.25, which was less than eight seconds behind the winning time of 18:57.81. The 4x100 meter team, consisting of sophomore Amanda Gatch, junior Jennifer Giebel, and freshmen Jenna Porter and Cutcliffe, finished fourth with a time of :54.23. Cutcliffe also placed ninth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.16 seconds while Porter finished second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.32 seconds. Porter and Giebel ran well in the 200 meter dash as they placed fourth and seventh respectively in 27.56 seconds and 28.11 seconds.

Sophomore Lauren Glaser placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.41, followed by Giebel in fifth with a time of 1:02.98, and junior Jessica Brown in seventh with a time of 1:03.48. Brown also placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.94 while Glaser placed fifth in 2:30.17. In addition to Way’s success in the triple jump, she placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.26.

In the men’s meet, sophomore Brandon Wheeler (pictured) placed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of :49.65 seconds, fifth in the high jump with a jump of five feet, 10 inches, and 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters. Junior Aaron Sirtoli finished first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:36.96, which was almost a full minute ahead of the second place finisher. Junior Nick Stenuf placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.95 and fourth in the 400 meter run in :51.41. Junior Robby Castor had a third place finish in the 800 meter run as he finished in 1:58.19 and a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of :52.18.

Junior Brendan Epstein ran strong in the 5,000 meter run as he finished in second place in 15:18.26, under two seconds behind the winning time. Junior Michael Anderson also ran extremely well in the 5,000 meter run as he finished in 16:37.89. Nazareth’s 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of junior Chris McBride and freshmen Justin Banks, Jon Qazi, and Matt Case, finished fourth in a time of :45.41 seconds. Case and Qazi also finished third and fourth respectively in the 100 meter dash in 11.76 and 11.79 seconds. Case finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of :23.60 while Banks placed 11th in :24.05. The 4x800 meter relay team, consisting of seniors Chris Patterson and Brad Winn as well as sophomore Sean Rahrle and freshman Chris Freeman, finished seventh in 9:25.32.

The Golden Flyers compete at the University of Rochester Saturday, April 7th in their next meet.
